We are a multigenerational, inclusive Christian community that has served as a spiritual home for people of faith for over one hundred years.

OUTREACH

The mission of St. Clement’s Outreach Committee is to encourage and enable ministry to those in need of assistance by collaborating with agencies providing services or through grants to non-profit organizations. The Outreach Committee sponsors numerous activities during the year and provides grants from the Goode Ritson Endowment Fund. Here is a summary of events held during the past church year:

Here is a summary of events held during the past church year:

Toiletry Drives

Multiple Toiletry Drives were held this year with all proceeds going to the Berkeley Food and Housing Project.  Toiletry Drives encourage donations of toiletry items such as soap, shampoo, deodorant and toothpaste, which are then donated to BFHP to give to clients at their shelters.

The St. Clement’s EYC group packaged the donated items for the BFHP during church school.

Rise Against Hunger Food Packaging Event

Nearly 60 members and friends of the St. Clement’s community joined together in April to package 10,000 meals for Rise Against Hunger, our fourth annual food packaging event.

What made the event particularly special were the many young faces and new faces in the crowd.  As usual, we were able to talk and get to know each other better – and do a great deal of good doing so.

The meals we packaged were sent to Cambodia in a container containing 285,120 meals.  Salesian Missions, a partner of Rise Against Hunger, distributed the meals in Cambodia.

Breakfast Drive

Our Fourth Annual Breakfast drive began in February and concluded in April.  Members of our EYC (Episcopal Youth Club) and Sunday School groups built a great “Wall of Jericho” out of boxes of Instant Oatmeal and other cereal.  The Wall was so well engineered this year that it took many attempts to knock it down using bean bags.

The equivalent of over 2,750 meals were collected this year, with proceeds going to the Alameda County Community Food Bank.

Pet Food Drives

Multiple drives have been held of the past year to collect pet food, toys and supplies.   The proceeds are given to local animal shelters. Past recipients include the East Bay SPCA and the Lindsay Wildlife Rehabilitation Hospital at the Lindsay Wildlife Experience.

Goode Ritson Grant Program

Each year St. Clement’s considers making grants to local charities from the Goode Ritson Endowment Fund.   Provided funds are allocated, the Outreach Committee reviews and recommends grant requests on the basis of church member involvement, purpose of grant and local impact, among other considerations.  Eight charities received grants for the 2017 church year.

Outreach Fair

In November, St. Clement’s held its annual Outreach Fair with 10 non-profit organizations participating.

The Fair is an opportunity for non-profits to explain what they do and provide ways for members of St. Clement’s to become involved.  Charities who attended the event included Options Recovery Services, Church Divinity School of the Pacific, Clausen House, Attitudinal Healing Connection, Habitat for Humanity and Writer Coach Connection.
